These delightful air fryer pigs in a blanket with bacon are the British and Irish version of our beloved American pigs in a blanket. It’s that time of the year when desserts and appetizers flood the dinner table.
2Tablespoonmaple Syrup see notes for recommended substitutions
½teaspooncayenne pepper
Instructions
Mix the maple syrup and cayenne pepper and set aside. Cut bacon into 2 halves and wrap each sausage with bacon. Repeat process till all sausages are comfortably wrapped in bacon.
Place the bacon wrapped sausage links in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd the basket. Brush them with the maple syrup and cayenne pepper mix.
Set temperature to 400F / 200C and cook for 13 to 15 mins or until the sausages are fully cooked and bacon is crispy. You can flip the sausages to the other side 3 mins before end of cooking time.
Notes
No need to preheat if using the air fryer, however subsequent batches will likely cook faster because the air fryer got preheated while cooking the first batch.
Bacon and sausage releases a lot of oil. Drain oil from each batch before proceeding to the next batch to prevent the air fryer from smoking.
Do not overcrowd the basket so that the heat circulates enough to crisp up the bacon.
You can cut the bacon into thirds if you want to be more economical if you do this, you are likely to need to secure the Bacon with cocktail sticks.
It’s easier to cut bacon when cold and easier to wrap the sausages with not so cold bacon. Stick bacon in the refrigerator for a few minutes before cutting and let it sit on the counter for a few minutes to warm up before wrapping the breakfast sausages.
