Pop tarts vs Toaster strudel
These treats take us dorm memory lane because pop tarts and Toaster strudels take us back to our childhood with lots of fondness. So at a point you’ve probably wondered what the difference is between pop tarts and toaster strudels. Well though they seem similar, these two differ in a few areas. Which include
The Pastry: Pop tarts are made with pie dough while Toaster strudels are made with puff pastry
Shelf Stability: Pop tarts are pre made breakfast pastries designed to be eaten right out of the packet. They are shelf stable and don’t need to refrigerator. On the other hand Toaster strudels are not Shelf stable. They need to be in the refrigerator and should be heated up before eating.
Where to find them: Pop tater being shelf stable can be found in the baking goods or Cereal aisles in the grocery store while you’ll find breakfast toaster strudels in the refrigerator in the frozen aisle section.

Why you’ll love this method
You might be wondering, why use the air fryer when it’s clearly called Toaster Strudels? Well it’s for the same reason we tried out air fryer toast and fell in love and if you are looking for how to make toaster strudels without a toaster, please read along. Here are a few reasons we love to use the air fryer for toaster strudels.
- We do not have a toaster anymore. The first time I made toast in the air fryer was because my toaster packed up in the middle of a toasting job. I finished up with the air fryer and decided it was good enough to replace the function of my toaster.
- Cooks evenly: The air fryer cooks the toaster strudels better in my opinion. The puff pastry has a better crispy texture than when toasted.
- Tastes better: I don’t know if it’s just me but the ones made in the air fryer seems to taste better.

How long do you cook toaster strudels in the air fryer?
Toaster strudels take about 5 to 7 minutes to cook in a non preheated air fryer. If you preheat the air fryer, expect the strudels to cook in 4 to 6 minutes. If they were frozen rock solid before being air fried, check at 7 mins and as more time as needed.
How to make it
Get the quantity of toaster strudels that you need out of the refrigerator/ freezer. Remove from packaging.
Place the frozen pastry in the air fryer basket or rack. Air fry at 350°F for 5 to 7 mins, till warms we through. Remember to flip halfway through cooking time. You will know it’s Warmed through when the filling is hot and the pasty golden brown.
If they were frozen (rock solid) you will need to air fry for a couple more minutes
Spread the glaze, serve and enjoy.
What to serve with
Breakfast toaster strudels are usually enjoyed as I’d with the glaze on top. However you could serve this with hot chocolate, hot cocoa, tea or coffee (for adults)
How to store and reheat
If you’re toasting store bought strudels, I highly recommend reheating the quantity you need at a time.
Air frying Tips
- Cook straight from frozen no need to thaw.
- This recipe was tested in a non preheated air fryer. If you preheat, the strudels would cook in a shorter time than was stated in this recipe. Start checking a couple of minutes earlier than is indicated here.
- Do not overcrowd the basket or overlap the strudels.
