Roasted Blistered shishito peppers are mostly cooked in a pan on the stove top but air frying them is even better. No need to stand over your stove stirring these and clean up is a breeze.
Cooking peppers in the air fryer is a great way to add crispness to the skin and a smokiness that doesn’t require a grill. You can literally just let them cool a bit and then pop them right in your mouth, YUM!

What are Shishito peppers?
Shishito peppers also known as lion head chili in Japan are an East Asian pepper variety of the species Capsicum Annuum. It if a slender long pepper that is harvested when it’s still green which is its unripe form. It’s red when it’s ripe.
Shishito peppers have a thin wall or skin which helps it cook really quickly and blisters and chars easily to give that nice grilled peppers look and taste.

- Oil
- Dipping sauce
- Honey
- Soy sauce

How long to cook Shishito peppers in air fryer
I cook Shishito peppers at 400°F / 200°C for 8 to 10 mins in a non preheated air fryer. By this time it’s well blistered and slightly charred.

How to air fryer shishito peppers

Rinse and drain Shishito peppers. Pat dry with parchment paper. Then transfer to a bowl. Add oil to the peppers.

Transfer to air fryer basket and air fry at 400°F / 200°C for 8 to 10 mins or until peppers are blistered and slightly charred.

What to serve with plus dipping sauce for Shishito peppers
The beauty of cooking shishito peppers is that you can serve them up however you want.
You can add some oil and seasoning, add a bit of butter and spice, or you can literally add them to your salad and dig in and if you are looking for the best dipping sauce for shishito peppers, look no further than honey soy ginger sauce (recipe in recipe card) or any other sauce you like.

How to store and reheat
These are best eaten in the day they are made if you intend to pair them with dips. However if you want to add them to salads or serve S a side dish, leftovers will keep for up to two days in an air tight container.
To reheat the peppers, you can pop them back into the air fryer at 350°F / 180°C for up to 3 minutes or until heated through or heat them up in the microwave. Heating them in the air fryer is going to be the only way to give them a crispy outer texture.

- The great thing about cooking shishito peppers is that you don’t have to peel them once they’re cooked! Most times, when you cook bell peppers, you’ll then spend a good amount of time peeling off the skin. With these peppers, you don’t have to!

Equipment
- Air fryer
Ingredients
- 14 Ounce Shishito peppers
- 2 teaspoons Oil
- ¼ teaspoon salt
Honey Soy Dipping Sauce
- ¼ Cup Honey
- ¼ Cup low sodium soy sauce (use Tamari soy sauce for gluten free)
- 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger
Instructions
Prepare the dipping sauce
- Whisk the sauce ingredients together a f set aside in the refrigerator.
The peppers
- Wash and drain Shishito peppers in a colander. Pat dry with paper towel.
- Transfer to a bowl, add oil and ½ of the salt. Toss to combine.
Air fry
- Arrange seasoned peppers in the air fryer basket or rack. Set temperature to 400°F / 200°C and air fryer at 400°F / 200°C for 8 to 10 mins
- Remember to shake basket halfway through to ensure even cooking.
- When it’s blistered and cooked, sprinkle the rest of the salt then serve with your favorite dipping sauce.
