Best Crackers for s’mores
The best crackers for s’mores seems to be graham crackers because that’s the cookie it’s traditionally made with. However since graham crackers are cookies, you can substitute it with other cookies if you can’t find it in your area. Below are some great alternatives.
- Digestive
- Tea cookies
- Rich tea biscuits
- Ginger snap
Ingredients & Tools
Ingredients
- Graham crackers: we always have these on hand cos we make a lot of s’more recipes and of course for cheesecakes we need a good no bake graham cracker crust too.
- Jumbo Marshmallows
- Chocolate bars
Tools
- Air fryer: This recipe can work in any air fryer brand however I used the gourmia air fryer and Cosori to test it out.
- Perforated Parchment Paper liner: You can DIY perforated parchment paper for easy clean up since the marshmallows can melt and leak on to the basket. If you’d like to make your own air fryer liner, You can watch the video tutorial. If you’d rather buy, Walmart has some and so does Amazon.
- Air fryer rack: If you are worried marshmallows would fly around, you can use an air fryer rack. I use the one that came with my Air fryer. Most air fryers come with it. You will need it to hold down parchment paper from flying around in the air fryer if you do use one
- Kitchen tongs: This will help with lifting out the rack because it would be hot. You can also use a kitchen mitt or glove if that’s what you have.
And just in case you were wondering! Can you put parchment paper in Air fryer? Good news! Yes you can find out all about it in this guide.
How to make s’mores in air fryer
This is an overview of the recipe with step by step photos. Scroll down to end of post for a printable recipe card with the amount of ingredients and full recipe instructions.
With chocolate squares and jumbo marshmallows
Cut the jumbo marshmallows in half, place sticky side down on the crackers and gently press down to stick (the cut side is the sticky side) Set Temp to 350°F / 180°C and air fry for 3 mins in a non preheated air fryer.
When the time is up, you can either place Chocolate bar on top of one marshmallow topped cracker then cover with a second marshmallow topped cracker.
Alternatively transfer marshmallow topped cracker to a plate, top with chocolate and cover with second cracker.
with chocolate chips and mini marshmallows
Place crackers in parchment paper lined air fryer basket, top with about a tablespoon of chocolate chips. Place rack over the the crackers and air fry at 350°F for one minute. This will soften the chocolate and act as a glue to hold the mini marshmallows down.
When the time is up, remove the rack with a pair of tongs, then place a tablespoon of mini marshmallows over the melted chocolate put the rack back before air frying for another minute to toast the marshmallows. Bring it out and place graham crackers on top of each one.
Variations and alternatives to s’mores
There are a variety of way to make and enjoy air fryer s’mores. By switching up the ingredients used in the traditional s’mores recipe you can get delightful flavor variations. Below are a few of our suggestions.
- Caramel s’mores: smear some caramel on over the chocolate before sandwiching the crackers.
- Biscoff cookies butter: we love adding some cookie butter to the mix.
- Candied bacon: Candied bacon s’mores are delish because bacon makes everything better.
- Strawberry: use flavored marshmallows to add some strawberry flavors in there.
- Mint chocolate: Love some minty flavors? Use some mint flavored chocolates instead.
- Cookies and cream: a bar of cookies and cream chocolate makes a world of difference in these.
- Peanut butter smores: Swap out the chocolate with Reese peanut butter cups.
Storing indoor s’mores
S’mores are best enjoyed immediately. However if you’d like to make these ahead for up to 6 hours you can. I don’t recommend storing s’mores in the refrigerator or freezing it.
Air frying Tips
- I made these in a non preheated air fryer. However I would say subsequent batches were made in a preheated air fryer since the air fryer got preheated while cooking the first batch.
- If you preheat the air fryer, it would take less time to toast the marshmallows it took 2 minutes in mine when making subsequent batches.
- Do not skip the step for cutting the marshmallows if you are using the jumbo ones. Cutting it provides a sticky surface that lets you stick it to the crackers, reducing the chances of it flying around in the air fryer. You can still use a rack if you are not confident it would stay down.
