FAQs
Thick sliced breads work best like brioche, challah and Texas toast. Preferably a day or two old. Any bread with thick slices should work. Avoid thin sliced bread which gets too soggy.
Yes, lightly coating the basket ensures the bread doesn’t stick especially if you are not using parchment paint. Iy also helps the bread browns evenly and gets crispy.
Dip bread slices into egg mixture, flipping to coat both sides be careful not to let it soak for too long.
Yes! No need to thaw. Cook frozen slices at 350°F for 6-9 minutes, flipping halfway.
There is no difference, they are one and the same. FYI it’s also called gypsy toast.
Pro Tips
- No preheat needed. Use thick sliced bread - this holds up better than thinner sliced bread. Brioche and challah work great.
- Don't overcrowd the basket: allow space between slices for air flow. Cook in batches if needed.
- Spray or brush basket with oil alternatively line with parchment paper because from scratch French toast and sticks tend to stick.
- Check at intervals: at least half way through but very important if you are using the air fryer for the first time. Feel free to adjust the cook time if needed. Thinner bread may cook faster.
- Do not soak the bread in the egg mixture for too long so it doesn’t get soggy. If this happens it may take a long to cook and may not yield great results.
